- Start a notebook Ctrl+N opens a gallery of papers: pick one, or the whiteboard, then the name, page size and cover color. The notebook saves itself as you write, in the notebooks folder in Documents. F2 renames it, and Ctrl+W shows all your notebooks.
- Pick a tool, then tap it again Tap the active tool a second time for its size, color, pressure and stabilizer. Keys 1 to 5 pick a favorite pen.
- Use the built-in help Help and tips, in the main menu, explains every tool, gesture and setting, and works offline. Press F1 for the list of keyboard shortcuts and gestures.
If something goes wrong
The app closed before I saved
Every change is written straight away to a recovery journal on your PC. Start the app again and it puts those changes back. If the app closed on an error, it also saved a rescue copy of the open notebook: open Settings → About → Open app data folder to find the rescue copies and the local logs.
My palm moves the page while I write
Set Palm rejection to High in Settings → Pen and touch: touches are then ignored for longer after the pen. Setting your writing hand there helps too. If two- and three-finger taps undo things by accident, turn those taps off in Settings.
A notebook changed on another PC
If a notebook’s file changes while it is open, for example through OneDrive, Inkslate stops saving and asks. Keep both saves your version next to it as a new notebook; Overwrite replaces the other version with yours.
Something doesn’t work as it should
Open Settings → About → Copy diagnostics. It puts the app version, the Windows version and the last lines of the local logs on the clipboard, ready to paste into an email to us. Check the text before you send it: logs can contain file and folder names, never notebook content.
Nothing is sent automatically. The app has no crash uploads and no telemetry, so we only learn about a problem when you tell us.
Printing and sharing
Print (Ctrl+P) opens the Windows print dialog with a preview. Print all pages, the current page or a range such as 1-3, 5, and fit each page to the sheet or print it at actual size. Where the print dialog isn’t available, the notebook opens as a PDF in your PDF viewer instead.
Share sends a PDF of the notebook to the app you pick in the Windows share sheet. Other apps can share to Inkslate too: a PDF becomes a new notebook, and pictures go on the current page.
Notebook files
Where are my notebooks?
In the notebooks folder in Documents, unless you picked another folder in Settings, or saved a notebook somewhere else. Settings → Open notebooks folder opens it in Explorer. Each notebook is one .wboard file, so you can copy, back up or move it like any other file, and OneDrive or Dropbox can sync the folder.
I deleted a notebook by mistake
Select Undo in the message that appears. Deleted notebooks also go to the Windows Recycle Bin, so you can restore one from there later.
What is a .wboard file?
A standard ZIP of readable JSON, compact binary ink and your pictures. Copy a notebook, rename the copy from .wboard to .zip and Explorer opens it. The full layout is in the app: Help and tips → The .wboard file format.
Moving to a new PC
Copy your .wboard files to the new PC and open them in Inkslate, or point Settings at the synced folder that already holds them.
System requirements
- Windows 11, or Windows 10 version 1809 or later
- An x64 (Intel or AMD) or ARM64 device
- A pen is recommended; the mouse, touch and keyboard work too
- No internet connection and no account needed
- In English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), Japanese, Korean and Simplified Chinese
Trial, purchase and refunds
Inkslate costs USD 5.99 as a one-time purchase from the Microsoft Store, with no subscription. The Store gives you one week to try the full app first. While the trial runs, the title bar shows the days left, and you can buy from there. When the trial ends, Windows asks you to buy the app before it opens again; your notebooks stay where they are, as ordinary ZIP files.
Purchase, payment and refunds are handled by the Microsoft Store, not by SoFloWare: request a refund from your Microsoft account’s order history. If you think the app is faulty, email us first and we will help.
