Inkslate for Windows · Version 1.2 · Last updated 20 October 2026
Inkslate collects no personal data. Your notebooks stay on your PC.
- Works fully offline
- No account or sign-in
- No analytics or telemetry
- No tracking, no ads
- No cloud, no servers of its own
- Nothing leaves your PC unless you send it
This policy explains what Inkslate (the “App”), a note-taking, whiteboard and drawing app for Windows, does with your data, what your rights are and how to reach us.
Data controller
The data controller for any personal data processed in connection with the App is SoFloWare LLC (“SoFloWare”, the “Publisher”), a Wyoming limited liability company, 30 N Gould St Ste R, Sheridan, WY 82801, USA. Contact: info@sofloware.com.
EU and UK representatives (Article 27)
The App collects no personal data (see below), so the Publisher does not process personal data of people in the European Union or the United Kingdom through it. The Publisher has therefore not appointed a representative under Article 27 of the GDPR or the UK GDPR, relying on the exemption in Article 27(2). For any data-protection matter, contact the Publisher directly.
What we collect
Nothing. The App collects no personal data and sends nothing about you or your notebooks to the Publisher or anyone else.
- There is no account, no sign-in and no profile.
- There is no analytics, telemetry, usage statistics, crash-reporting service, advertising or tracking of any kind, and no third-party code that does these things.
- The App has no servers and no cloud service. It runs entirely on your PC and makes no network connections for its own function.
If a future version ever adds optional diagnostics, it will be off by default, will ask for your consent before anything is sent, and this policy will be updated first to say what is collected, by whom, for how long and why.
What we do not collect
We never collect, upload or see your notebooks, their contents, titles, file names or folders, your handwriting, the text you type, search or copy, the pictures and PDFs you import, or anything you print or share. Because we never receive any of it, we could not disclose it to anyone, even if asked.
What is stored on your own PC
The App keeps these on your PC, under your Windows user account. None of it is ever sent to the Publisher.
| Data | Where | Why |
|---|---|---|
Notebooks (.wboard files) | The notebooks folder in Documents, another folder you pick in Settings, or wherever you save them | Your content. An open, documented format: see “The .wboard file format” in the App’s Help. |
| Crash-recovery journal | The App’s private local folder | Puts back unsaved changes after a crash or power cut. Deleted when the notebook is saved. |
| Preferences | The App’s private local folder | Pen colors and sizes, theme, recent notebooks, and similar settings. |
| Temporary files for Print and Share | The App’s private cache folder | Handed to the PDF viewer or the app you choose in the Windows share sheet. |
| Diagnostic logs | The App’s private local folder | Help find the cause of an error. They can contain file and folder names (for example the path of a notebook that failed to open), never notebook content. They stay on your PC unless you choose to send them to us (Settings, About, “Copy diagnostics” puts their last lines on the clipboard for you to paste into an email). |
| Rescue copies | The App’s private local folder | If the App is about to close on an error with unsaved changes, it saves a copy of the open notebook here (the newest 10 are kept). Delete them any time. |
Uninstalling the App removes its private folder. Your notebooks stay where they are until you delete them.
When something leaves your PC
Only when you send it, for example when you:
- use Share: the app you pick in the Windows share sheet receives the file under its own privacy policy;
- export, print or copy something and pass it on yourself;
- save notebooks in a folder that another app keeps in sync, such as OneDrive. That app, not Inkslate, uploads them, under its own terms.
Windows and Microsoft Store features
- Handwriting recognition (convert to text, search) uses the recognizer built into Windows, on your PC. The App does not send your ink anywhere.
- Purchases. If the App is sold or offers a paid upgrade, the purchase, payment and license are handled by the Microsoft Store under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. In that case the App asks the Store whether your copy is licensed and what the upgrade costs; these requests go to Microsoft, not to us, and carry no notebook data. The Publisher receives only the aggregate sales reports Microsoft provides in Partner Center, which do not identify you.
- Windows itself may collect diagnostic data under your Windows privacy settings. That is Microsoft’s processing, independent of the App. This includes Windows Error Reporting: if the App crashes, Windows may send a crash report to Microsoft, and the Publisher may see crash statistics for the App in Partner Center. The App itself sends no crash reports.
Legal bases (GDPR Article 6)
The App processes no personal data on the Publisher’s behalf, so no legal basis is needed for anything the App does. The limited processing that can occur:
- Microsoft Store purchases: a contract between you and Microsoft (Art. 6(1)(b)); Microsoft is the controller.
- Emails you send us: our legitimate interest in answering you (Art. 6(1)(f)). We keep them only as long as needed to help you.
- Responding to legal process: legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)).
Retention, transfers and security
Data on your PC stays until you delete it or uninstall the App. The Publisher holds no personal data from the App, so there is nothing to retain, transfer abroad or secure on a server. Your notebooks are protected by your Windows account and any device encryption you use, such as BitLocker.
If a breach ever affected personal data the Publisher controls (for example support email), we would notify the supervisory authority within 72 hours where required (GDPR Art. 33) and affected people where the risk is high (Art. 34).
Your rights
EU and UK GDPR
You have the right to access, correct and erase personal data the Publisher holds about you, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, to withdraw consent at any time, and to complain to your data-protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office). Email info@sofloware.com; we answer within one month. Data on your own PC you can delete yourself at any time.
California (CCPA / CPRA)
California residents have the right to know, delete and correct personal information, to opt out of its sale or sharing, to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and not to be discriminated against for using these rights. The Publisher has not collected personal information through the App, and has never sold or shared any. There is nothing to opt out of.
Other U.S. states
Residents of Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Montana, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Virginia and other states with comprehensive privacy laws have similar rights. We honor them on the same terms, through the same address.
This site
This site sets no cookies and loads nothing from third parties: no analytics, no fonts, no scripts from anywhere but this server.
Children
The App collects no personal data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. A change that would collect anything at all would be announced in the App first and would need your consent.
